Monitor (கண்காணித்தல் )

Performance Evaluation (செயல்திறன் மதிப்பீடு)

In earlier posts we had seen the guidance provided by the great sage the need for ensuring selection of the correct task / project, the correct timing for the launch, obtaining the necessary expertise from the experts, selection of most suitable candidate to execute the task and imparting training to make him an expert in the chosen field.

As the next step, the duty of the manger is to constantly monitor employees for their performance, and honesty in discharging their  duties. He cannot assume that everything will progress in  right direction, once the delegation is done. as there can be a large gap between the  expectations and ground reality. If proper monitoring is carried out meticulously, everything would progress in the right way meeting the objective. Even good employee can turn bad in the absence of regular rigorous reviews. The following kural brings forth the above dictum.

   நாடோறும் நாடுக மன்னன் வினைசெய்வான்
   கோடமை கோடா துலகு (520)

   Naadorum Naaduga Mannan Vinaiseyvaan
   Kodaamai Koda Thulagu

       மன்னன் தினமும் தன்னிடம் வேலை செய்பவர்களை கண் காணித்தால்
   அவருடைய ஆட்சியில் எல்லாம் நன்றாக நடக்கும்.

If a king on a regular basis monitors his executives, and exercise control, then everything will go              right under his rule.

Regular Review  ( முறைப்படி ஆய்வு )

Now that he had fixed all aspects demanded for progressing the work, he must concentrate of conducting regular review to get feedback from all concerned . The sage warns about the adverse effect of the absence such review in the couplet given below. This is very much applicable for the present day companies or governments. The chief executive should create an environment that encourages the staff or labour at all levels to open out and express their views without feeling threatened. This ensures the CEO and other leaders to tap the best ideas as well as to know their their problems or discontentment first hand in time, without any distortion, to facilitate immediate action.  We have witnessed that delayed justice or belated corrective action by the governing authority, resulting in deterioration of morale, ultimately destroying the company or country as the case may be. Long drawn strike in any industry is the result of pent up anger accumulated over a period of time due to negligence and inaction by management in finding out the true problems and cause of discontentment  among the employees.

நாடொறும் நாடி முறைசெய்யா மன்னவன்
நாடொறும் நாடு கெடும் (553)

 Nadorum Naadi Muraiseyyaa Mannavan
 Nadorum Naadu Kedum

The country under the king, who does not check to find out the
problems of his subjects  and remedies the pain of the affected, will
witness his kingdom getting ruined by the day.
